A Few Of My Favorite Things

“These are a few of my favorite things”

Don’t’ worry, this isn’t a blog about how much I love “The Sound of Music” (although I do love that movie). It also has nothing to do with Julie Andrews or singing with a family of crazy-talented children who oddly have never been trained as performers.

This doesn't exactly make me want to run outside or head to the gym.

This doesn’t exactly make me want to run outside or head to the gym.

We’ve reached the midpoint of January and, as we continue through the end of the month, motivation to exercise and eat right tends to fall off more and more rapidly. And it’s not only the Resolutionists I’m referring to. It’s cold, there’s not as sunlight, and cold and flu bugs seem to hit all the time. It’s a new year with new projects and classes, equaling busy work and school days. Races are few and far between so there’s not the added kick of having an event to train for. Combine all that with the fact that spring (and especially summer) seems so far off, it’s easy for many to be tempted to throw in the towel on all the work that goes into a healthy lifestyle.

Yes, it’s work but let’s not forget that eating well and working out isn’t a prison sentence. It has upsides and rewards – one of those is feeling great. And this time of year, it’s more important than ever to do things that make us feel great.

I’ve decided to start a series of entries looking at some of my favorite things about health and fitness. Not only will this be fun for me, I hope it reignites and reenergizes someone who needs it, and reinforces the good things that come with trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

I plan to go through some of my favorite foods and beverages, lower body and upper body workouts – and a few other random acts of fun thrown in too. If there’s anything that you’d like to see, comment or tweet me @runlikeagirl311.

Until next time, I hope everyone is staying positive and grinding through these tough months!
